The department aims to equip students with the necessary competencies for an entry level language professional, including computer literacy, knowledge of commerce, business studies, and basic Japanese communication skills.
The curriculum features numerous English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses, ranging from English for Tourism and Leisure, English for Tour Guides, English for Business communication, and Picture Book Appreciation and Application, to attain the skills needed to pursue higher education or a career in relevant fields. In addition, this program focuses on the fundamentals of digital technology and an introduction to business, to cultivate the transferrable skills required for future jobs.
Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of campus-wide, regional, or national English competitions to network with their peers and experts in the industry or academia and to grow socially as well as academically.
Students are required to complete a group project to learn and demonstrate their ability to work in a team and develop independent learning skills as well as critical thinking skills. They are expected to connect content knowledge, practical skills, and work habits to real world situations and issues. Students will demonstrate their skills through researching, reading, writing, organizing, and interpreting information.
